Counsellors in the Hamilton Family Health Team (HFHT) have special training in the area of mental health. They come from social work, nursing and similar professional backgrounds.
You may request an appointment with a mental health counsellor through your family doctor or other health care provider on their team. All visits are covered by the Ontario Ministry of Health for patients of the Hamilton Family Health Team.
Counsellors are able to see patients with a wide range of mental health-related problems. They can work with individuals (children, teens, adults and seniors), couples and families.
Common reasons to see a counsellor include:
HFHT also offers several mental health groups. You can see a list of them on this page. You will need a referral from your family doctor for most of the groups, and you need to be a patient of the Hamilton Family Health Team to be eligible for our groups.
We also have many mental health webinars that are free and available to anyone. You can watch them on our YouTube page here.
