The Physician Assistants (PA) in the Hamilton Family Health Team helps your doctor provide care and makes sure you have access to quality care when you need it most. They work closely with your family doctor and the rest of the team to manage your health and prevent illness.
Appointments
You may request an appointment with a PA by calling your family doctor’s office. All visits are covered by the Ontario Ministry of Health for patients of the Hamilton Family Health Team.
What does a PA do?
PAs perform some or all of the following roles:
- taking family and medical histories
- performing physicals
- providing patient education and counselling
- prescribing medications under medical directives
- making referrals to appropriate community and professional services (e.g. home and community care, mental health, nutrition, dental care, physical therapy and palliative care services)
- working with other members of the health care team to develop and deliver Chronic Disease Management Programs
